Traveling to America

Travelers Diarrhea(TD): The risk for Travelers’ diarrhea can only be minimized but not completely eliminated. America is a low risk area for TD; it usually affects people who travel from a hygienic region to one of poorer sanitation or cleanliness.

TD is caused by a variety of microbes-bacteria, viruses or parasites.Travelers are infected when they consume contaminated water or food. It appears to affect young adults than older travelers.

TD does not afford immunity and travelers can have more than one episode,if care is not exercised.

Simple precautions to prevent TD include - having bottled water,drinking beverages made of boiling water, washing hands with soap and water before eating or preparing food and carrying prophylactic antibiotics on the advice of a doctor.
