Glossary

Meniere’s disease: A disease characterized by elevated pressure in the endolymphatic system of the inner ear.

Otoscope: An Instrument, fitted with a light and lenses, which is used for visual examination of the external ear and eardrum.

Stapes: One of the three small bones (ossicles) of the middle ear – malleus, incus, stapes

Tuning fork: A two-pronged steel fork, which vibrates when struck and produces a sound of specific pitch.

Vertigo: A sudden internal or external spinning sensation that results from moving the head too quickly.
