What are the Side-Effects of Cancer Pain Treatment?
Each pain treatment may be accompanied by different side effects.
Side-effects of Radiation therapy-
- Redness of the skin
- Burning sensation
- Mouth sores
Side-effects of Chemotherapy-
- Hair loss
Side-effects of Pain medications-
- Constipation, which is common with opioids.
- Behavior changes
- OTC pain relievers might damage the kidneys, cause ulcers or increase the blood pressure.
- Aspirin can cause gastrointestinal bleeding
- Opioid analgesics cause nausea, itchiness, drowsiness, and constipation
The severity of these side-effects varies from person to person, and commonly occurs only with the first few doses and resolves once a steady amount of the medicine stays in the body.
