Treating with steroids such as dexamathasone, Prednisole should be avoided. Giving small exercise, hot water or hot bath with portable heaters, application of external pain killers such a aceclofenac or diclofenac or ibubrufen like voveran, nise in gel form may give relief in pain. Taking oral cox2 inhibiters may releive the pain. But adviced to take methycobalamine along with B complex tablets. like neurobion or met- neurobion is helpful.

Tab.Chloroquine twice daily for 2 weeks and then once daily for a month will surely be very effective treatment. As I took the treatment in 2007.

you can take homoeopathic medicine after studying indivisualising symptoms of patient, so can't get disease specific prescription , but homoeopathy will surely help.

in some individuals permanent damage of joint surfaces will occur this could be the reason for prolonged pains.we need one immuno modulator drug.In my opinion tablet Methotrexate7.5mg weekly once for 6wks to be given and during this period wkly blood counts under the supervision of physician is mandatory.

Mr. Ravi i think its wrong. People: pls Dont consume Methotrexate drug until and unless you are in severe condition of lifethreatning cancer.
you must do consult a physician before you go.

I've had joint pains for 18 mths now. I was on cortisone and chloroquinine. Cortisone helped with pain, but terrible side effects. Acupuncture twice a week really helped. I'm still in pain, but swelling has come down and it isn't as severe as before.

chikungunya treatmant drugs are there for adults
nimusulide 200mg [nicip ds]
prednisolone 10 mg [omnocortil 10mg]
dexamethosone [dexona]
ranitidine 150 mg [rantac 150 mg]
Chlorpheniramine Maleate [cpm]

[cetrizine tablet can also be used with these above drugs as anti side effect]

Dear friend,
Nimusulide has lots of sife effects and is banned in a lot of countries. so it is not a safe drug. Prednisolone and other steroids also cause lots of side effects so best avoided. CPM is also an outdated drugs which may only give symptomatic treatment for allergic side effects. So please stick to treatments like fluids and paracetamol. Chloroquine may be another option but I am not sure whether the benefit outweighs the risk here.

I contracted chikungunya while on holiday in Mauritus. I have had it for the past 10 months. Does anyone out there know how long it lasts? Some say from a couple of months to a year. If I don't take cortisone, I can barely move my limbs. I will be grateful for any info.

Hi Chantal. I don't know for certain as the health board here would not do the blood test, but I am certain that I got chikugunya while in India in July. Still have joint pains and get very tired sometimes. Did anyone reply to you as i would also like to know how long more I am gonna feel bad. thanks colette

Hi Colette yes, I spoke to the Ministry of Health in Mauritius - I also went back there a month ago. It can last up to 3 years, some cases even longer! I still have pain 18 mths later. Off the cortisone, but acupuncture really helping. Good luck.
