Vaginal Infections can be prevented by following simple techniques related to daily hygiene

Some of the preventive measures that will help prevent vaginitis are:

  • Avoid douching.
  • Keep the vaginal area clean.
  • Avoid synthetic underwear.
  • Always use loose cotton underwear.
  • Avoid scratching the infected area.
  • Avoid using tampons during the infection.
  • Avoid using of perfumed soaps, body washes, powders or lotions that can irritate the vagina.
  • Avoid sexual intercourse while on medication or till the symptoms disappear.
  • Minimise stress.
  • Avoid the use of petroleum jelly or other oils for lubricants.
  • Always wipe from front to back. Avoid wiping vulvar region from back to front after passing urine or bowel movement, as this may contaminate the vagina with rectal bacteria and lead to infection.
