Treatment of Uterine Polyps | Endometrial Polyps

Treatment of Uterine Polyps | Endometrial Polyps

Treatment of uterine polyps includes medications and surgical removal.

Small polyps that do not cause any symptoms do not require treatment and may resolve on their own. Others which cause menstrual abnormalities and infertility should be treated.

  • Hormonal treatments which include progestins or the gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists may provide temporary relief from the symptoms of uterine polyps.
  • Surgical procedures may be necessary to remove a symptomatic uterine polyp. These include hysteroscopy and curettage. If the uterine polyp is found to be cancerous, then hysterectomy, wherein entire uterus is removed via surgery, becomes necessary.
