Patient Education

  • It is important that the family is involved during the treatment and counseling of patients suffering primary or idiopathic hypersomnia.
  • Partners of patients must go through counseling to understand the symptoms and treatment measures. Many patients experience marital problems due to the condition, therefore counseling of partners helps in handling the relationship better.
  • Misunderstanding abounds in the perception of patients suffering primary hypersomnia, as they are thought to be lethargic and inert. Educating colleagues, relatives, family and friends can clear the misconception, helping victims cope with the disease better.
