Classification of Sleep Disorders

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine has identified and officially accepted 81 different sleep disorders of which a few common ones are discussed. Depending on the possible insults to sleep, some of the important and more common sleep disorders are as follows-

  • Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome
  • Narcolepsy
  • Restless legs syndrome
  • Periodic limb movement
  • Parasomnias
  • Hypersomnias
  • Circadian rhythm disorders
