Sarcoidosis - Incidence

Incidence

Sarcoidosis affects all races. But people from certain geographical areas are at a higher risk

  • Sarcoidosis occurs pan globally and affects all races. But a person is slightly more predisposed if he /she is African American, Scandinavian, Swedish, German, Irish, Peurto Rican or an Ice lander.
  • Its averge incidence is  16.5/100,000 in men and 19/100,000 in women.
  • Certain geographical areas are also  more affected. In the United states the  African Americans are more affected. They are also more likely to develop skin problems. The Black women are slightly more predisposed than the Black man.
  • There is no clear cut explanation for these preferences. This could be because they are affected by the more severe form of the disease compared to the Caucasians who could be affected by the asymptomatic variety.
  • Sarcoidosis rarely affects children. It is more common in adults between the age of 20 and 40 years.
