2. What is Fanconiís syndrome?

Fanconiís syndrome is a genetic condition that affects the entire tubule. The patient loses a large amount of bicarbonates, proteins, electrolytes, amino acids and glucose through the urine. The affected child is prone to developing rickets.

3. What is rickets and osteomalacia?

Rickets and osteomalacia are conditions where the bone becomes soft due to lack of calcium and Vitamin D. The condition is called rickets when it affects children and osteomalacia when it affects adults.

4. What are adrenal glands?

The adrenal glands are small glands located on the top of each kidney. They consist of an outer zone or cortex and an inner zone or medulla. The cortex secretes hormones like glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids (aldosterone) and angiotensin. The medulla secretes adrenaline.
