Symptoms of Precocious Puberty


Symptoms

Precocious puberty is marked by changes that signify early sexual maturation.

Precocious puberty is if the following symptoms are seen in girls before the age of 8-years:

  • Development of underarm or pubic hair
  • Rapid growth in the height
  • Breast development
  • Onset of menstruation (menarche)
  • Acne
  • Maturation of outer genitals

Precocious puberty in boys is when any of the following develop before 9-years:

  • Enlargement of penis and testicles
  • Development of underarm or pubic hair
  • Appearance of facial hair, often first on the upper lip
  • Muscle growth
  • Rapid growth in the height
  • Acne
  • Voice changes (deepening of the voice)
