Complications of Optic Neuritis


Complications

The optic nerve may permanently become thin and this condition is called as optic atrophy. Atrophy results in loss of field of vision, reduction in visual acuity or both.

Long term steroid treatment may cause various complications like susceptibility to infections due to suppression of immunity. There may also be thinning of long bones, gastric acidity, muscle weakness, weight gain and puffiness.
