Negative Calorie Diet - Principles

Principles

Negative Calorie Diet is based on the principle of using foods that create a negative calorific effect leading to loss of weight. The theory of Negative Calorie Diet is not scientifically sound since there is no food that does not posses calories. It is based on the concept of using foods, which produce an overall negative calorific effect, i.e. those foods whose calorific value is lower than the energy required for its metabolism.

How does Negative Calorie Diet work?

The mechanism of this diet is very impressive. The body requires certain amounts of energy for the digestion and absorption of food, thus in the process certain amount of fat would be broken down. In fact, 10% of daily intake of calories is used for body’s metabolic processes. For instance, celery, which provides 5 calories, utilizes 150 calories to digest during its metabolism thus creating a negative calorific effect. Thus by consuming celery we can burn approximately 145 calories from our body.
