Tips for Strong and Healthy Nails

The following are a set of tips that helps you to keep your fingernails in tiptop shape:

► Keep your nails clean and dry.

► Nail-biting or picking is to be avoided

► Daily application of moisturizer to your nails and cuticles helps. To prevent cracking use creams with urea, phospholipids, or lactic acid

► Rather than filing nails to a point, always file your nails in one direction and round the tip slightly

► Removing the cuticles or cleaning too deeply under your nails can lead to infection.

► Bothersome ingrown toenails are to be dealt only by a dermatologist

► Nail polish removers that contain acetone or formaldehyde should be avoided

► Green discoloration of artificial nails could be a sign of bacterial infection

► Eat a well balanced diet that has vitamins and minerals. A short course of multi-vitamin capsules or tablets may also help to take care of any deficiency.

► If haemoglobin is low and you are anemic take food rich in iron like apple and green vegetables.
