Menorrhagia causes excessive blood loss. The patient may also have pain during bleeding. Increased bleeding over a long time may lead to anemia.

Symptoms of Menorrhagia include:

  • An excessive blood loss, either as heavy periods or periods lasting for more than 7 days. Though it is difficult for the patient to assess the exact amount of blood loss, she may state that she uses an increased number of pads or tampons. She may also detect an increase in the size and number of clots passed in the menstrual blood.
  • The patient may experience pain along with the bleeding.
  • Increased bleeding over a long time could lead to anemia. The patient may feel increasingly tired and short of breath.
  • She may complain of change in mood, alteration in her work schedule or problems with her sex life.
  • The patient may show symptoms of associated disease such as thyroid disease, obesity, liver or kidney problems.
