Future Research
Research is being done to understand how the chemicals in the urine injures the bladder and the role of unidentified organisms in causing the disease.
Establishing diagnosis of IC seems to be still a challenge and many new markers are being established. Markers like - Antiproliferative factor (APF), HP-EGF. EGF, Insulin-like growth factor 1 are some of the markers that are being studied. Of all the markers Antiproliferative factor (APF) is the most studied. However they have still to have clinical application.
