Vertigo Treatment

How can Vertigo be Treated?

  • Vertigo from benign paroxysmal positional vertigo or labyrinthitis is often treated with physical therapy.
Treatment for Vertigo

Epley maneuvers or repositioning maneuvers are used to move the head in a variety of positions and manipulate it to clear debris (crystals) from the semicircular canals and to reduce the inflammation that the debris causes.

Diazepam and meclizine are used to reduce the inflammation. If the inflammation is due to viral infection, then anti-viral medicines like acyclovir or valacyclovir are used.

Vestibular Rehabilitation

  • Engaging in vestibular rehabilitation exercises for adaptation and compensation of the vestibular system can mitigate vertigo symptoms.

Managing Vertigo at Home:

  • Drink enough water to stay hydrated.
  • Steer clear of sudden movements that may trigger vertigo episodes.
  • Ensure you get enough rest.
  • Practice deep breathing or meditation for relaxation.
  • Consider specific exercises like the Epley maneuver.
  • Manage stress effectively.
  • Ensure you get enough sleep.
  • Consume a well-balanced diet.
  • Limit caffeine and alcohol consumption, as they can affect blood flow and inner ear function.
  • Watch salt intake, as it may worsen symptoms.
  • Adopt an overall healthy lifestyle.

It is crucial to adopt a comprehensive approach that involves personalized advice from ENT specialists or healthcare professionals to effectively manage vertigo and improve overall well-being.
