Diagnosis and Treatment of Ovarian Pain

Diagnosis and Treatment of Ovarian Pain

A carefully taken medical history, complete physical check-up and pelvic examination help in the diagnosis of ovarian pain. An ultrasound and few standard tests may be recommended by the doctor to determine the exact cause of ovarian pain.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis of ovarian pain is made based on the following:

  • A carefully taken medical history enquiring into the symptoms that occur during the pain as well as otherwise
  • A complete physical check-up and pelvic examination

Treatment

Treatment depends on the underlying cause of ovarian pain. For example:

Ovarian cysts may resolve on their own. Some need to be removed surgically. Birth control pills help to control pain from ovarian cysts and reduce the formation of new cysts by preventing ovulation.
