Glossary

Diabetes Mellitus (or Diabetes): A metabolic disorder characterized by abnormally high levels of glucose (hyperglycemia) in the body due to defective secretion or action of insulin.

Diabetologist: A physician who specializes in treating diabetes.

Ulcer: An open sore on the skin or a mucous membrane.

Immune System: A system of the body through which it fights off disease-causing agents like pathogenic microorganisms.

Dentures: A complete or partial set of artificial teeth of the lower and the upper jaw.

Plaque: Thin layer of food debris and bacteria which covers the tooth surface.
