Most people with small colon polyps do not have symptoms. They may only get found out during an examination of the bowel.

Signs and symptoms include:

  • Rectal bleeding: Rectal bleeding should be discussed with a doctor. It is not specific for colon polyps since it can also occur in colon cancer, hemorrhoids or minor tears (fissures)
  • Blood in stool: Red streaks in stool or bowel movements appearing black should be evaluated.
  • Constipation, diarrhea or narrowing of the stool that lasts for more than a week.
  • Crampy abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and severe constipation
