Glossary - Barrett’s Esophagus
Biopsy – A procedure where a sample of tissue is removed for the purpose of diagnosis.Cancer – An abnormal growth of cells that spread to other parts of the body and can result in death if not treated.
Cryotherapy – A type of treatment where liquid nitrogen is used to freeze the tissue.
Dysplasia – Development of abnormal tissue.
Gastroenterologist- A doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating disorders of the digestive system (which includes the esophagus, stomach, pancreas, intestines, and liver)
Precancerous – A condition which could develop into cancer.
Photodynamic therapy – In this procedure, a drug is injected through a vein, which gets concentrated in abnormal cells. When these cells are exposed to laser, they get destroyed
