Glossary

Antidepressants: Any type of medications used to counter depression.

Anxiety: A feeling of apprehension and fear characterized by physical symptoms such as palpitations, sweating, and feelings of stress.

Bipolar Disorder: This disorder is characterized by successive feelings of elation and depression.

Depression: An illness that involves the body, mood, and thoughts, that affects the way a person eats and sleeps, the way one feels about oneself, and the way one thinks about things.

Hallucination: Perceptions that occur without any external stimulus.

Mental Disorder: Psychiatric illness or diseases manifested by breakdowns in the adaptational process expressed primarily as abnormalities of thought, feeling, and behavior producing either distress or impairment of function.

Neurotransmitter: Chemicals that act as messengers between cells in the brain and nervous system; they transmit impulses across the gap from a neuron to another neuron, a muscle, or a gland.

Phobia: Persistent, irrational fear.

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder: Feelings of anxiety experienced after a particularly frightening or stressful event, which include recurring dreams, difficulty sleeping, and a feeling of isolation.

Psychotherapy: It is the process the counseling where the counselor encourages the counsel lee to express his feelings and understand them better to cope with them.
