Acromegaly - Prognosis

Acromegaly - Prognosis

For good prognosis of acromegaly early diagnosis is mandatory.

Prognosis is good in patients who receive prompt treatment. Surgery is successful in upto 80% of the patients depending on the size of the tumor and the skill of the surgeon. Remission rates mainly depend upon the initial size of the pituitary adenoma, the GH level, and the skill of the neurosurgeon. Microadenomas have 80-85% remission rate, while macroadenomas have 50-65% remission rates. A postoperative GH concentration of less than 3 ng/dL was associated with a 90% remission rate.
