How can Mastitis be prevented?

On appearance of early signs of milk stasis, treatment should be started early, check for any lumps if pain, redness or hotness appear in the breast with fever and start treating the symptoms with

  • Bed rest
  • Breast feed very often from the affected breast
  • Take a warm bath
  • Massage the breasts if you find any lumps

Infectious mastitis can be prevented by maintaining proper sterile conditions in hospital and proper hand washing with antiseptic soap solution by mother and health workers to prevent pathogenic bacterial infection.
