Kyphosis - Diagnosis

Kyphosis - Diagnosis

Your Doctor, will ask for a detailed history regarding

  •  The symptoms and their duration
  •  The posture adapted by you in daily life
  •  Whether the condition is present from birth
  •  If you suffer from any diseases like osteoporosis or osteoarthritis of spine or infectious disease of the spine like tuberculosis
  •  If you had a Spinal injury

After gathering your history, the doctor will conduct a physical examination to confirm the deformity. This examination includes

  • Observation and palpation of the spinal area. (In kyphosis, the muscles will be tender and on palpation cause pain)
  •  Looking for the appearance of the curve of the spine, which will be too far outwards, resembling a hunch back, when viewed from the side. (This will confirm the deformity.)
