Vascular Malformations

Haemangioma and Vascular malformation, the most common benign tumours of the skin in neonates, may be present at birth or appear in the first months after birth.

Haemangioma increases in size suddenly during first 6-8 months. Most of these lesions regresses in a few years and reduces is size. Small haemangioma, which are getting traumatised, can be excised in early childhood. Vascular lesions are of different types and grow as child grows. They need treatment according to the nature of lesion and may need multidisciplinary management depending on the size and site of the lesion. Large lesions are life threatening and may need close supervision. Any complication like bleeding, ulceration or infection may need active treatment. Laser treatment is useful only in port-wine stain.
