It takes a year for a coconut to fully mature, but since each coconut palm has new bunches blooming around 13 times a year - fresh green coconuts are available all the year round.

The fresh green coconuts are ones where the endosperm is the clear fresh water, which on maturity becomes the tasty white meat or kernel. A green coconut is ready to use for its water in 5 months, earlier will result in the water having a bitter tinge.

Coconut water is one of the safest moisturizers for a glowing complexion and a radiant skin. There is no contamination or pollution possible especially when you use it directly from the coconut or even packaged as there are no added chemicals. It has a very light consistency and does not cause any allergies.

Coconut water is one of the few drinks where it is difficult to decide whether it is more beneficial as a refreshing drink or as a skin tonic. Hawaiians call coconut water “Noelani” – which means “Dew from the Heavens”.

The water from a tender coconut is very good for removing unwanted tanning of the skin. Even for those working on developing a tan, it evens out the patchiness.

When the skin looks dry and dull, a splash of coconut water will instantly rehydrate the skin to give a fresh and glowing look.

This water removes greasiness and using it regularly will prevent pimples, blackheads, acne and blemishes.

When circulation of oxygen is poor, a lot of impurities get deposited on the skin surface. Every cell needs good blood circulation for which Coconut water is a great help as it boosts circulation and clears the pores which take in enough oxygen making the skin glisten with a flawless complexion.

Coconut water has cytokinins which prevent the skin from pre-mature wrinkles and aging.

Some of us have skin infections accompanied with itchiness, especially during monsoons or at the peak of summer. Coconut water has all types of anti-viral, anti-microbial, and anti-fungal properties which can heal and soothe the skin. When you need to use it on the body – add 2 glassfuls to a bucket of bath water.

For stubborn acne make a paste by mixing 25 grams of turmeric paste with a glassful of coconut water, add 3 teaspoons of red sandalwood powder to this. Cover this and keep it aside for 2-3 day. Strain through a sieve and use it regularly as a face wash.

Another pack you can make for a healthy and radiant look is by adding coconut water to fuller’s earth (multani mitti) with a pinch of turmeric powder to make a paste. Apply evenly on the face and neck and wash gently after 20 minutes.

Coconut water used on a daily basis can lighten pockmarks and pits due to chicken pox or smallpox. Scars left due to acne will also smooth out after regular use.

For best results can cleanse your system internally by drinking a glass of coconut water regularly, along with topical applications. Allergies are very few and advantages are hundredfold.
