Types and Causes of Polyarthritis

What are the Types and Causes of Polyarthritis?

  • Degenerative:

Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis and is the result of aging or repetitive movements.

  • Autoimmune:

Rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), Sjogrens syndrome and psoriatic arthritis are examples of autoimmune arthritis. In this type of arthritis the immune system attacks the joints causing severe joint damage. Amyloidosis, a condition in which amyloid (a form of insoluble protein) is deposited around joints is often mistaken for rheumatoid arthritis.

  • Infectious

    :

The infection can be due to a bacterium, virus or fungus which can enter your joint and trigger polyarthritis. Polyarthritis is a prominent symptom of viral infections such as Alphavirus, Chikungunya virus, Ross River virus, and Sindbis virus.

  • Metabolic

    :

Gout is a painful type of arthritis caused by a buildup of needle like crystals of uric acid in a joint.

  • If you have osteomyelitis, bursitis or tendinitis there is a higher chance to develop polyarthritis.

What are the Risk Factors of Polyarthritis?
