Glossary

Capillaries: Minute blood vessels connecting the smallest arteries to the smallest veins. Capillaries have walls so thin that oxygen and glucose can pass through them and enter the cells, and waste products such as carbon dioxide can pass back into the blood to be carried away and taken out of the body.

Cirrhosis: A type of chronic, progressive liver disease.

Conjunctiva: A membrane that lines the inner surface of the eyelid and also covers the front part of the eye.

Diphtheria: A bacterial disease marked by the formation of a false membrane, especially in the throat, which can cause death.

Nausea: Vomiting sensation.
