Glossary

Necrosis: Changes due to death of cells or organs.

Fascia: Sheet of thick-fibre tissue that surrounds the body beneath the skin. Fascia also encloses muscles. Inflammation of the fascia is referred to as fasciitis.

Bullae: Blisters.

Surgical debridement: Surgical removal of dead, damaged, or infected tissue, or some foreign material from a wound or burn.

Septic shock: Infection with disease-causing microorganisms or other toxins in the bloodstream.

Crepitus: Abnormal sound heard on movement of a joint.
