Glossary

Deep Tissue Massage: A type of massage therapy that uses firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles).

Hematoma: A solid swelling of clotted blood within the tissues.

Hydrotherapy: The use of exercises in a warm pool or under a warm shower as part of treatment for painful muscle and nerve conditions.

Myelography: A diagnostic imaging procedure that uses a contrast dye and X-rays, CT scans or MRI to look for problems in the spinal canal, including the spinal cord and nerve roots. 

Slipped Disc:  This condition is synonymous with prolapsed or herniated disc and can cause pain in the lower back, legs or feet. Pain in the neck, shoulders, back, and arms can also occur, accompanied by numbness or tingling in your hands and fingers.

Spinal Compression: This is caused by any condition that puts pressure on the spinal cord.

Spinal Stenosis: This is the narrowing of the spinal canal.
