Your Bond With Your Pet Can Now Extend into Space

by Hannah Punitha on Mar 25 2008 6:40 PM

The bond between you and your pet may not just be bound to planet Earth, for man's beloved companions may one day follow him into space, says a leading scientist.

Endeavour astronaut Richard Linnehan, a former veterinarian, feels that your beloved dog or cat will be up in space for sure.

"I think someday it's inevitable. We get to the point where we have colonies on the moon and colonies on Mars and we have large areas of pressurized living space. I think pets will be there for sure. Pets follow people around," Discovery News quoted Linnehan, as saying.

Linnehan said that people making a trip to 'outer world' in the future may have a greater variety of options for companions.

"Maybe they won't have dogs and cats. Maybe they'll find some strange life on another planet that makes a great pet," he said.

Meanwhile, astronauts aboard the International Space Station are mesmerized by their new pet - a massive robot named Dextre.

The motorized beast, which stands like a guard dog on top of the U.S. laboratory Destiny has been delivered and assembled by the visiting space shuttle Endeavour crew.
