World's Fattest Man Takes the Life-Saving Gastric Bypass Route

by Tanya Thomas on Jan 19 2010 8:56 AM

It has emerged that the world's fattest man, Paul Mason, has undergone a life-saving surgery to reduce his weight.

The 48-year-old, who weighed 70 stone in October, had a gastric bypass to make his stomach smaller and stop him from eating himself to death, reports the Daily Star.

Mason has been bedridden for the last eight years and was eating 20,000 calories a day, eight times more than the maximum requirement for adult men.

It is believed Mason used to gorge three family-sized takeaways in a night.

Last week Mason was brought to hospital in Chichester, West Sussex and is expected to be released after a month.
