Popularize Yoga as Part of Preventive Healthcare Programs: Indian Parliamentarian
Yoga is an ancient Indian practice or discipline that includes breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures. It is widely practiced across the globe for physical, mental and spiritual well-being. Tarun Vijay, an Indian parliamentarian, has urged fellow lawmakers from around the world to popularize yoga in their countries as an effective instrument of preventive healthcare.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had suggested declaring June 21 as ’International Day of Yoga’ and as many as 170 countries at the United Nations have supported this call.

During a session on healthcare, Tim Evans, senior director for health, nutrition and population, World Bank Group, also said, "Yoga is a proven method to stay fit and hence has been accepted as an effective preventive healthcare system."

Evans, who was responding to queries whether the World Bank and International Monetary Fund would consider including yoga as part of their healthcare programs worldwide, said that he would appeal to all parliamentarians to start practicing it and popularize it in their regions.
