Women Run to Promote Breast Cancer Awareness
In Mumbai, women participated in an exclusive series of runs to promote breast cancer awareness on Sunday in an event christened the 'Pinkathon- 2012'.
Initiated by Bollywood actor and endurance runner Milind Soman, the event featured three categories of 10, 5 and 3 kilometres respectively, with actors like Anusha Dandekar and Tara Sharma turning up to participate.

The runners were flagged off by actress Karishma Kapoor.

Soman said that he intended to make the event an annual one spread across 10 major cities, in order to spread awareness about early action against the disease.

"In ordinary runs, male participation is very high, because of which women sometimes feel uncomfortable. So, it is very important to promote women's running. It is breast cancer awareness, because breast cancer is a disease which we do not understand, but if detected early it is completely curable," said Saman.

He added that the success of the initial plan would be followed by an attempt to spread further awareness in smaller towns and villages.

"Apart from us, there are many non-governmental organisations which are doing this work. Eventually we will move to villages as well," he said.
