Women Ignore Heart Attack Warning Signs
A new poll by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) has found that many women ignore warning signs that they may be having a heart attack and that this delay is costing lives.

The poll of 2,236 adults found that many women delay calling 999 as they fear ridicule if their condition turns out to be normal.

"Every second counts when you are having a heart attack and calling 999 at the very first sign means you are much more likely to survive," said Dr Mike Knapton, BHF Associate Medical Director. "There is no need to feel embarrassed about getting it wrong - saving your life is more important than saving face."

The first warning sign of an impending heart attack is a dull pain, ache or 'heavy' feeling in the chest with pain often spreading to the arms, jaw and the neck. However, symptoms can vary and experts feel it is best to seek help immediately.
