Welsh Dentists Earn £5,000 More Than English Counterparts

Figures from the NHS Information Centre in England have revealed that Welsh dentists earn an average of £5,000 more than their English counterparts on an annual basis.

The average salary of a dentist in Wales is £94,000 a year as opposed to £88,870 a year for an English dentist. However the British Dental Association (BDA) in Wales said the data was messed up by the fact that a handful of dentists in Wales earn hundreds of thousands of pounds a year.

"We have a national contract and it reflects dentists' undergraduate university education; it reflects the other things they do to improve their work capability and the responsibility on them to look after the well being of the population," said Stuart Geddes, director of BDA Wales.

The figures also showed that most dentists earned 70,000 pounds a year in taxable income while 113 dentists earned £275,000 to £300,000 and 159 earned £250,000 to £275,000 a year.
