A popular adultery website has ranked Washington, D.C as the capital for extra-marital affairs than any other city in the United States.

AshleyMadison.com, an online dating service for people already in relationships, revealed that it has almost 38,000 members in the nation's capital, the most per capita among its 13 million user base.

Powerful men and women, especially those in politics, "are massive risk takers," Noel Biderman, CEO and founder of Ashley Madison, told the New York Daily News.

In some cases, "they're willing to transfer that to risk-taking to their personal lives," he said.

"The more successful you are, the more prone to cheating you are...and Washington is full of successful people looking for something outside their marriage," he added.
