Warning Issued Over Using Geckos to Treat AIDS and Impotence
The health department in Philippines has warned the general public against following the traditional medicine practice of using geckos to treat AIDS and impotence.
The Philippines export geckos to China, Malaysia and South Korea where they are used as aphrodisiacs and as medicines to treat AIDS, asthma and cancer.

However there is no scientific basis that geckos are beneficial for those with AIDS and the health department is concerned that people who opt for such traditional medicines do not seek proper treatment.

This is the main reason that this warning has been issued. The authorities also asked people to approach proper medical personnel to get treatment for their issues.
