"There's no doubt we are seeing more problems because more people are having cosmetic surgery. The number of firms set up to organise packages is also increasing," said Nigel Mercer, a consultant plastic surgeon and president of Baaps.
The research also showed that websites offering packages overseas were indulging in unethical marketing as they did not detail potential complications. Additionally 39% of the sites did not include details of the procedures.
Douglas McGeorge, a past president of Baaps said people must be made aware of the potential risks, "Patients have to be able to know what they are getting for their money, and the qualifications of their surgeon," he added.
