Pramod Mahajan Undergoes Third Surgery

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pramod Mahajan underwent a minor surgery on Saturday as he continued to battle for life, a week after being shot at by his brother.

Doctors at P.D. Hinduja Hospital, where the 56-year-old politician was rushed April 22 after Pravin Mahajan shot at him from close range in a fit of rage, said Pramod Mahajan continued to be on a ventilator in the ICU.

Mahajan, a former central minister and a BJP general secretary, underwent a minor surgery to give him an abdominal wash, said sources in the hospital.

A CT scan was done Friday to assess the injury to the politician. The scan showed that the injuries are the same as were assessed during surgery, said doctors.

Describing Mahajan's condition as critical, the hospital authorities said the politician's requirement of medication to support the blood pressure had gone up marginally since Thursday night.

Earlier, doctors had said his body was responding well to the gradual reduction of medication to maintain blood pressure.

Mahajan is still on dialysis support, said hospital sources, adding the three bullets remain lodged in his body and they were not of immediate concern to doctors.

A team of doctors is closely monitoring Mahajan's condition and the future course of action will be considered only after all the vital parameters completely stabilize. Earlier Dr.Mohammed Rela in a Bulletin from London had clarified that at no point was a liver transplant considered for Mr. Mahajan. These were mere press speculation as he is a well experienced liver surgeon who was famous as a transplant surgeon.

There have been also reports from Bihar that Naushad Haider, a member of the BJP's Minority Morcha wanting to donate his kidney to help the leader and save his life.

What the press and people have failed to understand is that a transplant is no minor operation and organs cannot be exchanged like motor parts!!
