In the capital of India medical students are striking against the government proposed quota system. This has taken a new step when the students said that they are going to conduct a huge demonstration on Tuesday.
They were persuading school and college students to participate in the demonstration against the government’s proposed move to increase the Other Backward Classes (OBC) quota in educational institutions. The medical students and their supporters have been boycotting their classes for the past one week. They have also asked the principals and students to support for their cause against the proposed hike in the OBC quotas. Student representative of the youth for equality Shubham Garg said they are seeking that support of the students of Class XI and XII in the agitation as they too be would be affected in the near future.The student population participating in the demonstration is students from the Delhi University. Undergraduate students from five medical colleges, namely, All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, Maulana Azad Medical College, Vardhman Mahavir Medical College, Lady Hardinge Medical College and the University College of Medical Sciences have boycotted classes. The medicos were also holding talks with the representatives of the Delhi Medical Association for support.
Medicos in Lucknow, Bangalore and Kolkata held protests, observed fasts, and wore black badges at work. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has also said that it would address the issue in the general body meeting. This has sparked a wave of outrage and protests from thousands of students across the country. The main reason behind this uproar is that students would be denied of a fair chance towards education.
