Vitamin D In Pole Position At Clinical Endocrinologists Meet

The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) Fifteenth Annual Meeting and Clinical Congress to be held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago between April 26-30 will discuss important benefits of vitamin D and the problems associated with vitamin D deficiency.

Vitamin D has been in the new recently and everything from preventing cancer to heart disease has been attributed to it. Recent studies have highlighted its deficiency as being the cause in many chronic diseases, including common cancers, autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes and multiple sclerosis as well as cardiovascular heart disease. Michael Holick, MD, Professor of Medicine, Physiology and Dermatology at Boston University School of Medicine and author of The UV Advantage is scheduled to present some findings of vitamin D deficiency, which often go unnoticed. Among the topics that will be discussed are the important role of sunlight and diet in receiving adequate amounts of vitamin D, definition of vitamin D intoxication and how to treat it and definition of vitamin D deficiency and how to provide an approach for the prevention and treatment of vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D is just one topic that will occupy the conference.
