Taylor and Campbell in Portland Square are quitting the NHS on April 1. Dentists in England and Wales have to sign up the new national health contracts by April 1st. Several Cumbrian practices have already opted out. Previously dentists had to give their patients three months notice when leaving the NHS.
But now due to the new contract and patients are receiving just a few days notice. The North Cumbria Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) cannot yet say how many dentists are definitely staying with the NHS. But a spokeswoman said that they were unhappy about this situation and that Taylor & Campbell are opting out. Their opting out decision could potentially affect all 1,985 of the surgery’s adult patients.They are not aware of the number of people who would sign back up as private clients with any of these dentists. Partners Bill Taylor and Fiona Campbell released a joint statement, saying that this new dental contracts would be detrimental to their service. But a spokeswoman for the PCTs said that 12 new dentists creating over 20,000 new places would improve the situation.
