Prime Minister Manmohan Singh set up a task force to fill up the healthcare sector, which runs shortage of doctors, nurses and lab technicians. The recruitment not only fills up the void but also give an opportunity to the unemployed.
The move is based on the recommendations of a recent report submitted by National Commission on Macroeconomics and Health, highlighting the huge gap in human resources in the health sector."There are growing opportunities with India emerging as a major international centre for low cost health care. The fact that India is demographically a young nation gives it an opportunity to have its trained personnel meeting the health care needs of the demographically aging countries," said a release from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia has been given the task of setting up the task force that would comprise representatives from the ministry of health, officials of health departments in selected states and professional experts.
The task force will map the gaps in the sector, identify new opportunities and submit a comprehensive human development plan, the release stated.
