Kerala: The jailed Indian National in Saudi Arabia, is confirmed to be released from the prison in the course of this week. The prisoner had been nailed on charges of causing partial blindness to a Saudi national.

This case has been in the International media glare for quite a while. Naushad’s release was decided after the victim, the Saudi National pardoned him for the injury caused. This happened during the visit of Saudi King, Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al-Saud’s, visit to India last month.

A happy Sugala, the wife of the Indian National said"Last week, the Indian embassy officials from Saudi Arabia called us and said they have submitted all the papers to the jail authorities,” suggesting his release next week.

Naushad, 34, has been imprisoned since 2003 after he caused injury to a Saudi National following a heated fight, leading to the loss of the Saudi national’s eye. Naushad would have had to suffer capital punishment on the lines of ‘an eye for an eye’, and perhaps would have had his eye gouged as well, but for the victim’s pardon that will now release him from the punishment.
