Prime Minister John Howard has allocated $1.1 billion in health reforms. But his off-handed statement has outraged mental health groups.

Mr. Howard said that there was more mental illness previously which we are not aware off and hence the best thing is to move on with one’s life.

This comment was labeled as being very insensitive, offensive and ill-informed.

Though he said that in reality mental illness is still considered as a big problem his comment was considered unhelpful and rash by the SANE Australia executive director Barbara Hocking.

She said that this was the attitude people had despite the latest technologies and awareness among the people regarding mental illness.

Hence we are trying to change this attitude among the common man.
