Looking young is a very important factor. People feel good when they are complimented on their age. It is said that one looks young if they have a happy married life with loads of money minus the worries. It is bad news for those who are skinny and those who smoke and drink heavily.
This study mainly aims in understanding the relationship between the effects of lifestyle, medical history and diet on the way men and women age. It is very astonishing to know that lifestyle can make a difference of about seven year in the way one looks. It is also better if one puts in a little extra pounds as it makes them look a little younger. A Danish scientist says that for a woman to look younger all that she requires is happy married life.
This holds true even in the case of men. In case of children fathers look younger but it has no perceived effects on the looks of a woman. This could be because woman takes charge of the childcare. It is extremely beneficial when the couple belong to a higher social class. This makes them look up to four years younger.
Their study included questioning a number nurses to guess the ages of 1,826 identical and non-identical twins after looking at photographs of their faces. Almost all were in the age group of seventy years old.
Then the scientists studied the various environmental factors such as marital status, parenthood, class and lifestyle choices and how each affected their age. It was found that heavy drinking, chronic asthma, diabetes, regularly taking painkillers, over-exposure to the sun and depression all made a person look old.
These results show that about 40% of one's age variation is affected by non-genetic factors. But in conclusion a person is doing absolutely fine if he is not depressed, not a smoker and not too skinny.
