Professor Rosemary Crompton conducted a survey in 5 European countries on how women lead a balanced life between work life and domestic life to find out whether women enjoyed the present life situation or would like to have a traditional life style, the work was funded by Economic and Social Research Council. The study was conducted to find whether women who work have problems with their family life.
Researchers found that women who worked hard to achieve great heights in their work face problems in their domestic life as they spent long hours in work and have little time to spent with family members in United Kingdom and France. The situation is different in Portuguese where the career growth is mostly based on work experience and not on overall work capacity and these women don't have to spend long hours in work.
The researchers found from the survey that women had a less stress and enjoyed work and domestic life if her life partner also shared her household work which made her have a work-life balance and lead to a more traditional way of life which lead her to have a peaceful domestic life.
