India To Import Hepatitis Vaccines From China

by Medindia Content Team on Jan 14 2006 6:35 PM

A Chinese company will commence exports of live hepatitis A vaccine to India, as it has been given the necessary clearance to do so.

The export by the Zhejiang Pukang Biotech Co marks the debut export of Chinese-made vaccines. The vaccine, developed by Chinese scientists, has been tried on 130 million people in China and shown to be effective in bringing down incident rates of the disease by 20% every year in the past decade.

The company said that the vaccines were ready for export to India after they had passed human tests and the ensuing observation period of three years. Vaccines are the most effective way to curb the spread of hepatitis.
